discount + feature: amanda oaks

meet amanda of prettyfnmess! just in time for valentine's day. her lovely collages speak of love (lost + found). amanda was gracious enough to let us ask her a few questions + she also threw in a discount!

how did you become involved with this type of art? i've always loved collage work for as far back as i can remember. my love for art + words always seem to merge in every medium i try my hand at. i come from a crafty family, it's in my bones.

what inspires you? life + love. i really am a hopeless romantic. i absolutely adore the fact that my work is mostly being purchased to give away to a loved one. music, poetry, weather, open fields, color, light, leaves, the wind, gardens, skin over hipbones, babies on backs, vintage wallpaper, the tip-tip of a typewriter in a drafty room.

do you have a favorite artist and/or writer? i've had so many influences through my life it's so hard to pick just one. i love many of the beat writers, the females especially. some of my favorite writers are writing today in the small press. i run a small press called 'verve bath press'. i'm lucky enough to have published quite a few of my favorite writers. as far as visual artists, being heavily involved in the handmade community, i seriously find a new favorite almost daily. there is soooooo much talent out there.

where do you see yourself in five years? well, in five years my two year old son will be seven, oh god, wow. the little one growing in my tummy will be five. i see myself laughing + loving a lot, that's all I can say about five years from now, no concrete plans yet. i float on the wind.

do you have other hobbies or crafts that you are involved with? like I said, i run 'verve bath' where i spend a good lot of time making books, which i adore doing. you can look at some behind the scenes photos here. I also blog at 'kind over matter' with my dear friend, jenn. we have so much fun over there spreading good, sharing art, hosting giveaways + giving freebies!

share an interesting fact about yourself. my personal poetry was in a college class syllabus once.
